Old houses in Saudi Arabia and other countries with Arab culture were built differently because of their hot temperature and absence of air conditioning units. They find different and unique ways to cope up without technology and modern inventions like using clay in construction of their houses since it has good thermal insulation, energy efficient and have its own cooling factor with a touch of antique furniture

They also put trees and plants inside and outside their houses to give shades and cooler atmosphere for natural setting.
The palm trees are very abundant in this country and is use around their houses. They had improvised a lot of indoor plant decorating ideas like plants that can be hang around windows or in the walls and cute pots and mugs as home for succulents. You can try that one too to add cooler atmosphere for your Eco-friendly house. Trees around your house helps to block the summer sun so Palm trees can be really helpful if your house is place in an almost deserted island look or environment.

Fireplace as an architectural feature in hot countries were not that popular. Instead, people have front porches to sit outside, relax, enjoy the breeze and sometimes, have breakfast over and sleep with their families.

The architecture not only in Saudi Arabia but also on other hot countries before 1900s or the invention of the air-conditioning units were far different from the modern and contemporary buildings nowadays.

Old houses have a lot of windows installed facing wall to wall to have cross-ventilation or good air flow. Before, there are only holes that act as windows since use of glasses and other materials is still not popular. Eventually, they have the traditional wooden shutters as Saudi Arabia progress with trading.

Most of the houses before even in Syria, Morocco and India were constructed by bricks, clays and stones.

Old towns in Saudi Arabia have mud houses. These mud houses were controversial, and experts debate over whether or not it will be renovated with other different techniques like alumni cladding and Riyadh stone to resemble the said old houses.

The preservation of these architectural heritages and other palaces were given direct attention and focus for the improvement of Saudi Arabia’s tourism as it reflects their history and culture. The materials used in these mud houses were clay, timber and stones in the shape of vertical towers and mostly had more than five stories.

Living within a country with hot temperature and without air-conditioning units, people have a different schedule. They like to take naps on the afternoon where the sun is really out, then work on the late afternoon and shop at night—that’s why there are a lot of night market in Saudi Arabia.

Houses and buildings have higher ceilings for practicality since there are no technology and other inventions. Higher ceilings inherit cooler space for the dweller that’s why it is still common nowadays even with inventions for climate control. Installing longer lightings and hanging plants in your house with higher ceilings are some of the Interior Design Solutionsfor empty and dead space due to higher ceilings. Some Interior Designers provide beds that can be put on top especially on small houses that have higher ceilings to save space and give the interior of the house such invigorating look.

Another pretty popular method in Saudi Arabia is hanging wet laundry within doorways. It is still used in suburban areas and you can see it in immense spaces of their towns. It became a functional tool not only to dry their clothes but to keep their area cool as the wind blows.

People in Saudi Arabia back to older times really have a lot of ways in keeping themselves cool. With technology and invention of air-conditioning units, their architectural features had changed. Modern houses are built in accordance to these units and to other great inventions. Inspirational Home Improvement Services provides a lot of help especially to beginners with having air conditioners. Still, there are other people who believe with simpler life without having air-conditioning units in their houses.

No matter what, we should all be thankful to these innovations and what we have to this modern world. And in case aircon fails or dies, we must use the cool old ways of Arabians.
