Minimalism usually aims at maximizing the space and giving a feeling of openness. Living room design in minimalistic version give the impression of clarity and richness through the compact chaos and mess, creating a sense of visual calmness. Minimalism also focuses on functionality and practicality in all its designs and objects, so you won’t find any detailed ornaments in a minimalist living room, nor in a minimalist bedroom, but rather pure and simple shapes and forms. Before we get down to the nitty-gritty, here's one piece of advice that should carry you throughout your reading; adopting a minimalist design style may turn your space into a soulless area, so, to avoid the risk of having such a feel at your house, you should add a welcoming touch through colors, textures, and combinations that we will provide you with below.

Minimalism is becoming more and more popular these days, and stripping most objects to their most basic form turned out to be the new trend, especially when it comes to furniture and décor objects. Yes, it is a simplified and decluttered style, but it is not that simple to apply!

    Plain Essentials

First, as mentioned earlier, functional and basic elements and furnishing make a minimalist style. We can see that clearly in the living room below designed by @kelley_marquis, where sofas and a table are all what we can notice in the space, giving a sense of calm and relaxation. On another note, @kelley_marquis is a creative director and a marketing pro, who worked with top tier design agencies and companies in many fields including interior design.

    Forms

The minimalism approach abides by some essential elements, which are form, light, and materials. Regarding forms, you will see clean lines in almost every object if not all of them, with flat and smooth surfaces, just like the living room showed by @minimalistinterior_ic, an art, interior design, and minimalism-focused magazine.

    Colors

Besides forms and lines, here come the textures and colors, including the flooring’s color! As you can clearly see below, @atkinson_kirby, a company that takes care of the house flooring, went for a beige-colored flooring, matching with the whole space’s palette. Actually, the color palette used in all minimalist living room ideas, or dining room ideas, or even laundry room design ideas, are monochromatic with a colored object that pops out from the entire scene. But if you want to adopt minimalism in your house décor, you should match for sure the colors of all the objects and elements.

Monochrome rooms are the identity of minimalism, as shown below in the picture uploaded by @rug_culture, retailers and interior designers offering a huge collection of curated rugs. We can note the same color and its different shades and hues spread all over the space, in sofas, tables, rugs, and chairs.

    Fabrics and texture

Fabrics and texture are always present in minimalist décor ideas. Different types of textiles with matching colors are a wonderful step to take if you are willing to have a minimalist space. @rug_culture shows in the below picture three different types of textiles and materials that have similar color shades and are very nice-looking together, that is, the throw-blanket on the sofa, the sofa material, the rug, and the cushions’ material. They provide added dimension and warmth to a room.

Minimalism is not just in forms, furnishings, and décor items, but also in art such as paintings, wallpapers, and sculptures. In @rug_culture’s below bedroom picture, a minimalist painting is hanged on the wall, giving a sense of art, simplicity, warmth, and relaxation, just exactly what a bedroom should feel like! Going flowery as well might not be a bad idea at all when thinking minimalism, whether real or fake flowers, nature is always welcomed into minimalist rooms, as nature in itself is simply and calmly fashioned, and adding some natural elements will surely give the impression you are looking for without any effort from your end: calmness and simplicity!
