Covid-19 is the first pandemic ever to affect humans the way it does. Its huge impact has touched every aspect of our lives in an unprecedented manner. When it comes to interior design, changes have occurred also.
The pandemic, this virus that began to spread since the end of 2019, has transformed our attitudes towards our homes. A home which used to be our accommodation and a place where we gather, eat and sleep with our family members, is gaining much more meaning right now. This space has become the roof that protects us from this deadly virus and the refugee from all external dangers. Whenever we enter it we feel safe.
Moreover, we are now spending almost all of our time at homes, working remotely, video-calling our relatives, executing new projects and most importantly thinking of a new room decor. Due to this pandemic we are now focusing more on the details we have created in each corner of our house and we are coming out with new ways to renovate our rooms. The renovation that we seek is a one that matches our new needs for not only eating our three meals per day, but also working, studying, conducting online conferences and taking care of our children.
Indeed, we are investing in our kitchens since we are not skipping any meal, viewing that going to a restaurant is not safe anymore. Some of the home owners have introduced a kitchen island which can accommodate an extra space to satisfy our increased consumption habits and shopping experience. Others have bought a marble coffee table on which they can relax after a long and tiring day, drinking a cup of coffee to get their energy back.
Spending more time in our bedrooms particularly during winter when the Covid-19 spreads strongly has made us realize how tidy and well-organized this room should be. A wardrobe cabinet is one idea to hold our clothes, offering extra storage especially if our bedrooms are small.
As for living rooms, a TV may not have been necessary but now it is a must! Bored of spending the whole time in the same space, TV is the best entertaining tool during covid-19 specifically Netflix which is a personal therapy for many of us. Moreover, comfortable couches are essential now to respond to our increased fatigue levels.
Another requirement that has emerged due to this pandemic is a home office recreation. This task is easy for large homes with empty spaces. However, for small houses, few owners have replaced some of their rooms with an office in which they can work privately, becoming thus more productive, without bothering the rest of their family members. Finally, our most obvious need is a multifunctional space, making use of every corner in our rooms and minimizing clutter around us. Thus, we can clearly notice how many rooms have been divided after the covid-19, to serve many purposes and how multiple purpose furniture are being invented and sold in the interior designer market due to its high demand.
