Find out the best decorating ideas for budget designers to help them achieve nice designs.
Change the paint colors
You think a living room needs redesigning? Changing the paint color alone can transform and lift the whole look; fresh paint will make the place feel fresh, while choosing different colors than the old ones will make the apartment look like it’s a whole new one!
Include plants
Plants will freshen up the place and give it a special and cozy vibe; add them in the corners or behind the furniture. Choose pots with beautiful and shapely designs as they play a big part in how the plants will look, and the overall decor.
Wallpaper
Wallpaper is cheap and comes in all designs and colors. Opt for elegant designs and humidity proof wallpaper. You don’t have to cover all the walls, as covering only one can do the job; in the picture below we see an example of classy textured wallpaper with a neutral color.
Second hand furniture
Save money and promote sustainability; second-hand doesn’t always mean worn out, as a lot of people change their furniture just out of boredom and sell their old pieces. Find what suits modern living rooms and get a lot more items, for less.
Elastic sofa covers
They can be custom made to your own measurements, colors and designs; they’re not pricey and will make it look like you bought new furniture; they are also easy to wash and easy to put on your couches.
Art
Low budget tableaux are everywhere; or you can make your own art with simple artistic designs or prints to decorate the walls. Opt for abstract art designs as they are the latest trend in modern interior décor.
Design a statement piece
A piece that is large, shapely and unique in design is enough to make the room look full and decorated; in this Scandinavian style living room, the designer went for a swinging sofa! This idea can be done by yourself, at home, and with minimal expenses.
Use existing items
Books, clocks, candleholders, nice glass cups… and a lot of daily use objects can come in handy in living room decorating. You can place them artistically on shelves or make a special decoration corner.
Reflect the resident’s style
As a designer, get to know the person and design according to his own personality by using items, designs and colors that reflect his own style. The décor will speak volumes even with low budget pieces.
Rearrange the furniture
If you’re redesigning a living room, a small change like switching the couches or the T.V place can go a long way especially if the room is spacious and can have different options for placing the furniture.
Add color
This tip works wonders if you have a neutral colors living room; including tables, paintings (ideas for painting walls) , and different decoration items with popping colors draws the attention and makes the place look cool and vibrant.
Pillow designs
Choose pillows with different designs, patterns and colors to spice up the seating area; you can also use elastic covers with different shapes and colors on your already existing plain cushions.
DIY
Or “do it yourself”: a lot of decoration items can be handmade at home with items you already have; from making your own paintings to decorating the jam jars to assembling your own table (dressing table)… it’s all about getting creative.
Thin rugs
Some rugs are solely for decorative purposes; they’re thin and require minimal production work. They’re affordable yet super effective for taking the floor from boring to nice and cozy no matter the color or pattern.
Beautiful lamps
Lamps are the first items to catch the eye, especially at night; placing a nice looking lamp in the corner or behind the couch can do a lot of decoration, and keep the place bright. You can also choose hanging ceiling lights with popping designs for a remarkable touch or floor lamp
Fake a fireplace
Design a fake fireplace in the wall or make it pop up with bricks to make it look real. The purpose of this trend is not to make it look like you have a fireplace, it’s more of a go to design to make the place look fuller and achieve a cozy aesthetic, especially in warm climates where a real fireplace if of no use.
Vintage items
Add in an old vinyl player, radio, T.V, an old camera on the wall or simply a vintage piece of furniture to give the room a vintage feel. You can find a lot of vintage items in antique stores or simply at your grandma’s house!
Wood
Wood is an affordable material and is a key element to elegance and a unique design; a wood ceiling, wooden furniture, or wall shelves are very eye catching and a top choice for budget designers.
Go Boho
Boho style is more about the art of combining items, than items themselves; you can use handmade items, natural materials and a lot of DIY. Boho uses a lot of patterns as well as calm and natural colors.
Create contrast
Contrast is very important when designing a room on a budget as it helps you save a lot of decoration and plays mainly on contrasting colors to make the design pop. Create contrast between the furniture and the walls for example by choosing contrasting colors like white/navy blue or beige/brown.
